Restaurant Teriyaki Sauce
I love that sweet, thick teriyaki sauce you get at restaurants. This is our version and a family favorite. I like to roll chicken in corn starch, cook in a frying pan with a small amount of oil, ginger, etc., add veggies and this sauce. Yum! The kids love it. You can adjust the spices, honey, etc., to your taste.
Sauce ingredients:
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 ½ cup water
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
8 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3/8 cup cold water (or pineapple juice)
Mix all but cornstarch and the ¼ c. cold water in a sauce pan and begin heating. Mix cornstarch and cold water in a cup and dissolve. Add to sauce in pan. Heat until sauce bubbles and thickens (it's important to get the sauce to bubble so it boils out the "cornstarch" taste). You can add more water if it gets too thick. Serve with your favorite veggies and meats for an easy stir-fry! It's a great way to get my kids to eat tofu chunks, they gobble it up.

Sounds great. I've tried many bottled sauces and they're never up to par. Do you ever use this as a marinade?
This DOES look yummy!
Thanks for stopping by to comment at Canned Laughter. You have been entered to win in the stationery give away. Good Luck!
Hi Marie,
I do use this as a marinade but I reduce the water to 1 1/4 c. and add about 1 C. pineapple juice at then end of cooking to thin it out. The acidity of the juice helps tenderize the meat and adds a sweet, tangy flavor.
Ooohh, recipe and marinade sound delicious!! Any tips for sesame chicken made at home?
Thanks for visiting my blog, I think I may gain 10 lbs just reading your posts! :)
I love teriyaki chicken -- and this looks nice and simple! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
I love teriyaki sauce! Will try your recipe next time.
Also, I loved your ideas for April Fool's Day. I feel like such a slacker mom. My 7 yr old was so excited about the day, and I didn't do anything. Sigh. Next year!
I just have to tell you I've used this base recipe so many times. I use it for a classic veggie and noodle stir-fry so I reduce the sugar a little and add some sesame oil, but it is one of my all time favorites. YUM!
